Nottingham Forest boss Nuno will approve as major transfer change plotted

Latest Nottingham Forest news as Premier League clubs could see a big change to the transfer window from next year

Next summer’s transfer window could look very different for Nottingham Forest, if a mooted Premier League change goes through.

According to The Sunday Times, the 20 Premier League clubs have agreed to a different approach regarding transfer windows. It is said that plans are being considered to close the summer window before the first game of the campaign, starting from 2025.

The change would see next summer’s transfer deadline fall on August 15. However, the Daily Mail reports the idea has not been voted on by the clubs and is yet to be officially ratified.

This year, the summer window closed on August 30. Forest had already played two league games and a Carabao Cup fixture by then.

Any move to shift the deadline to before the league action begins would go down well with Reds head coach Nuno Espirito Santo. He made his thoughts on the matter clear earlier this term, arguing transfer speculation can be a distraction for players.

“One of the things we have to reflect on - and everyone in the Premier League has to reflect on - is how come we are competing and the transfer window is still open? This is something we should really reflect on,” he said back in August. “It is noise around the players and around the football clubs.

“Not only me (thinks that). I think many of us managers will feel the same.”

Forest managed to get much of their transfer business done early in the summer this time around. But they did bring in a few players after the season had already started, with Alex Moreno and David Carmo (who immediately headed out on loan to Olympiacos) joining once the campaign had begun, and James Ward-Prowse and Morato putting pen to paper on deadline day.

Premier League clubs have overseen a change to the window before. The summer window closed before the start of the season in 2018, but quickly reverted back to its usual end of August date as teams felt vulnerable to late swoops from European sides. To avoid a repeat of that situation, it is said Premier League clubs are hopeful other leagues around Europe will also adjust their transfer window dates.
