David Coote filmed 'snorting white powder' in new video 'from Euro 2024 hotel'
by Jacob Leeks · NottinghamshireLivePremier League referee David Coote, who was recently suspended, has reportedly been caught on camera snorting a white substance in a video allegedly filmed during his time at Euro 2024. Coote's suspension came after a video believed to have been recorded several years ago surfaced, where he is purportedly seen making derogatory remarks about Jurgen Klopp and criticising a Liverpool performance.
The PGMOL swiftly suspended the referee and initiated an investigation, with the Football Association also probing into the matter. Coote is now reportedly contemplating resignation.
UEFA has also responded by removing him from their list of officials for upcoming international matches. In a new development reported by The Sun, an eight-second WhatsApp video allegedly shows Coote using a rolled-up US banknote to snort a line of what appears to be a white substance.
Prescription drug packets, a credit card, and a novel by Terry Hayes can be seen scattered on the bedside table next to the white powder. This latest video was reportedly taken on July 6 this year, a day after the Euros quarter-finals match between France and Portugal, where Coote served as a support VAR official.
He is alleged to have sent the video to a friend, and it is claimed he recorded himself in the UEFA-funded hotel room he was staying in during the tournament. Earlier in the competition, Coote reportedly sent another photo from Frankfurt, which appeared to show his credit cards on a saucer next to six lines of a white powdery substance, reports the Mirror.
He was said to be residing in accommodations provided by UEFA, the tournament organiser. The Sun reports that other videos were allegedly sent over the summer from France, where Coote officiated at three football matches at the Paris Olympics, including the Israel versus Japan game on July 30, where he served as the VAR official.
In light of the recent allegations, a PGMOL spokesperson has stated they are treating the matter with utmost seriousness. They confirmed that Coote is still under investigation but is receiving support from the organisation.
"We aware of the allegations and are taking them very seriously. David Coote remains suspended pending a full investigation," the PGMOL spokesperson told Mirror Football. "David's welfare continues to be of utmost importance to us and we are committed to providing him with the ongoing necessary support he needs through this period. We are not in a position to comment further at this stage."
Coote was suspended by UEFA prior to the release of the most recent video. A representative for the organisation informed Mirror Football: "The UEFA Referees Committee immediately suspended David Coote until further notice on 12 November - in advance of the upcoming round of UEFA matches - when it became aware of his inappropriate behaviour."
