Nottingham Forest hero closes in on £11m transfer as deal agreed
by Leigh Curtis · NottinghamshireLiveFormer Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Brice Samba is closing in on an £11m move to Rennes according to reports.
A deal looks to have been agreed which will see the France international make the switch from Lens to Rennes. Samba, who played a key role in Forest's rise to the Premier League, is considered one of Ligue One's best shot-stoppers this season.
Former Lens CEO and current Rennes president Arnaud Pouille has identified Samba as the man to help them recover from a disappointing start to the campaign, according to GetFrenchFootballNews.
Samba looks like he will be followed by Seko Fofana who is also expected to sign for Les Rouge et Noir. It is claimed that Samba has been disappointed by a shift in policy at Lens with the club's boss, Will Still, keen to balance the books.
While the sum of around £11m is considered high for a goalkeeper who is 30, Samba looks set to pen a five-year deal at Rennes who are managed by Jorge Sampaoli.
Samba was a huge favourite at the City Ground having joined the club from Caen for an undisclosed fee in 2017. He went on to make 133 appearances for Forest before he left for Lens in a £4.5m deal in 2022.
