Transfer stance set out as striker deal 'floated' to Nottingham Forest amid January priority

by · NottinghamshireLive

Young Republic of Ireland international Evan Ferguson is the latest striker to be linked with Nottingham Forest as they eye attacking reinforcements in the January window.

Bolstering head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s options at the top end of the pitch is a priority for the Reds this month. Chris Wood has been in fine form but with Taiwo Awoniyi yet to really get going, more competition and cover is required up front.

According to The Telegraph, Brighton and Hove Albion youngster Ferguson has been “floated” to Forest by intermediaries. It is said a potential loan deal for the second half of the season has been touted.

However, it appears there is plenty of competition for Ferguson’s signature. The 20-year-old reportedly has a considerable list of suitors as clubs plot their January business.

Arsenal, West Ham United and Fulham are among the Premier League sides credited with an interest in the forward, while Manchester United have been linked in the past. Reports have suggested Brighton would favour including an obligation to buy clause, if they allow Ferguson out on loan.

Ferguson has one goal from 14 appearances so far this term, although he has been hampered by injury problems. Seagulls boss Fabian Hurzeler addressed the Irishman’s future earlier this week and said the immediate priority was getting him fit.

"At first, I think he needs to get back on the pitch,” Hurzeler said, as quoted by The Sun. "The rumours, I won’t discuss them in public.

"I think it’s very important the player knows our idea, that we know the idea from the player and then it’s most important to be honest with each other, to find the right solution for the club and in the end also for the player. I’m really happy that Evan is in our squad and I’m hoping that he will be back on the pitch as soon as possible."
