Tanner Adams traded to Sudbury Wolves after refusing to play for Brampton

The Sudbury Wolves have acquired Tanner Adams from the Brampton Steelheads in a blockbuster Ontario Hockey League trade involving 15 draft picks.

Adams, a 16-year-old forward from Porcupine, Ontario, was selected third overall by Brampton in the 2026 OHL Priority Selection after starring for The Hill Academy U16 AAA team last season.

He had made it clear before and after the draft that he wanted to play for Sudbury and not Brampton.

Teh Steelheads selected him anyway, two spots before the Wolves drafted Kash Kwajah.

Sudbury general manager Rob Papineau secured Adams’ rights Friday by sending Brampton 15 draft selections stretching from 2027 to 2030.

The package includes four second-round picks, three third-round selections and eight additional picks across the fourth, fifth, sixth and 10th rounds.

Brampton is also expected to receive the fifth-overall selection in the 2027 OHL Priority Selection and another pick at the end of the second round as compensation.

Adams is expected to arrive in Sudbury next week.
