Batting first in the game, Sri Lanka lost opener Vishmi Gunaratne quite early in the innings. Wickets then started to fall at regular intervals as India severely restricted the flow of runs, thereby choking the opposition. SLW eventually managed to score just 128 runs at the end of 20 overs, with Vaishnavi Sharma and Shree Charani picking up two wickets each while Sneh Rana and Kranti Gaud bagged one wicket each.

In response, it took India women just 11.5 overs to complete the run-chase, with Shafali leading the charge. The Indian opener stayed unbeaten on 69 runs off 34 deliveries at the end of the run-chase, having struck 11 fours and one six during her knock. Mandhana managed to score just 14 runs while Jemimah Rodrigues got off to a positive start but was forced to walk back to the pavilion for just 26 runs.

The win comes as a boost for India ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 which is scheduled to be held in June. The Women in Blue have as many as 9 T20Is to go before the marquee event and will be targeting to win each game in order to strengthen their chances of laying their hands on another trophy.
