Rohit Sharma forces Kuldeep Yadav into taking 'false' DRS, says 'was trying my luck'
by Madhav Agarwal · Inside Sport IndiaIPL 2026, DC vs MI: The Rohit Sharma-Kuldeep Yadav incident happened in the 9th over of the match.
Rohit Sharma scored 35 in 26 deliveries for MI, against DC on Saturday, and played a crucial knock in context of the match, where only Suryakumar Yadav top-scored with 51. It wasn’t the smoothest going for the batter and his team, as they managed to post 162 in 20 overs; but if not for Rohit, the score could have been worse.
Kuldeep Yadav, DC make DRS blunder
There was a moment during the innings, where he showed, he is still one of the sharpest cricketing minds around. In the 9th over, the batter attempted a sweep against Kuldeep Yadav, and missed it completely. There was a loud shout for caught behind. And at that moment, Rohit foxed DC and Kuldeep.
He walked away, that prompted the bowler to take a review. That story did not end there, as the old fox also laughed at the proceedings, watching the opposition fall in his trap. The replays showed that the bat was no where close to the ball, and Rohit was safe. DC went on to waste their all-important review.
Rohit Sharma laughs it off
Former India coach Ravi Shastri was mighty impressed with what unfolded. He said on air. “How good was Rohit Sharma there. He has foxed them into taking a review by walking five yards towards the square leg. We have to see that again. That’s brilliant from Rohit Sharma.”
At the mid-innings interval, Rohit himself gave an account of what had transpired. “I know Kuldeep pretty well. He likes to take the DRS. So, yeah, I was just trying a little bit of luck there. I was just trying to walk there. I know Kuldeep likes to take the DRS as soon as there is a 50-50 chance. So, I was trying my luck there. It turned out in our favour,” he said.
