Not to forget, the IPL auction 2026 will have Aussie all-rounder Cameron Green, who is looked at, as a hot property for now. In fact, despite missing the entire last season due to an injury, he could be seen bagging a record-breaking contract. Now, is it possible for him to create the record?
Cameron Green can’t be most expensive buy
The answer, simply put, is a no. Due to an IPL rule — the maximum fee rule — the salary of a foreign player cannot exceed 18 cr, since teams had reported unavailability of foreign stars for the full season. In case the bid exceeds the proposed amount, then that amount would be utilised for player welfare.
“Any overseas player’s auction fee at small auction will be lower than the highest retention price [of INR 18 crore] and the highest auction price at the big auction. In case the highest auction price at the big auction is INR 20 crore, then INR 18 crore will be the cap. If the highest auction price at big auction is INR 16 crore, then the cap will be INR 16 crore,” said a statement from IPL.
Meanwhile, coming back to Green and his utility, he had once bagged a contract worth 17.5 Cr with MI. That season, he scored a ton and two fifties for the team, apart from picking up 6 wickets.
