NEMO RANGERS ENDED their recent county final pain in Cork to ensure the famed club are senior football kingpins once more, defeating St Finbarr’s 1-19 to 2-12 in Sunday afternoon’s final.

After losing the last three deciders, Nemo Rangers won this championship for the 24th time, and in the process avenged last year’s final loss to rivals St Finbarr’s.

A late first-half goal from Luke Horgan, palming home a Stephen Cronin pass, helped Nemo Rangers lead 1-8 to 0-5 at the break.

The winners maintained their control in the third quarter, surging 1-13 to 0-8 clear when Briain Murphy scored a brilliant two-pointer.

But St Finbarr’s mounted a strong fightback, inspired by a fiercely-struck shot to the net by Cork hurler Brian Hayes and a two-pointer by substitute Cillian Myers-Murray.

Nemo regained the initiative to go five points clear, before John Wigginton-Barrett grabbed a late second goal for St Finbarr’s. Twice the Barrs cut the gap to a single point in the finale, but Ross Corkery and Mark Cronin (two frees) rounded off Nemo’s victory by four points.
