Cambuslang Rangers boss Paul McColl has urged his side to put ‘Jekyll and Hyde’ performances behind them and grab a huge three points at home to Bellshill on Saturday.
The sides are locked on 13 points in the West of Scotland Second Division, with Bellshill ahead in 11th on goal-difference, and a win could move Cambuslang up to 10th.
But McColl admits he doesn’t know what to expect, given that his side lost 5-1 at Neilston seven days after beating high-flying Larkhall Thistle 1-0 on their own patch.
McColl said: “We’re going from brilliant to dreadful and I can’t get my head round this team this season.
“It’s Jekyll and Hyde. We beat Larkhall Thistle, but then we lost 5-1 against Neilston last week, and I don’t think anybody else loses goals the way we do – it’s incredible.
“But that game is done, we move on, and see how we do on Saturday.
“It’s Bellshill at home, they’re quite near us, so it’s a game we need to win.
“I’d like to think we can get a wee win in what is a huge game.”
McColl praised St Anthony’s for making a decision on their league game at McKenna Park on Friday night, and West of Scotland League bosses for cancelling the entire card, as Storm Bert hit Scotland hard.
However, McColl is far from happy with a sparse fixture list in front of him.
After Saturday’s visit by Bellshill, Cambuslang are next down for a trip to Lanark United on December 14, and nothing until Bonnyton Thistle visit on January 11.
McColl said: “The boys at St Anthony’s called it right on the Friday, so that was the right thing to do, and the West of Scotland League have obviously decided to cancel everybody on the Saturday, which is fair enough.
“It’s getting to games. I tried to drive on Saturday, it wasn’t happening, and it was dangerous, so they did the right thing in getting it off.
“Obviously you want to play, but there’s nothing you can do when the weather’s like that, it’s just part of playing in this country – the weather’s terrible.
“I don’t think we’ll have a fixtures problem, because we’re out all the cups, but I just don’t know how this league is run.
“It seems to be after next week or the week after – I don’t know the exact date – we don’t technically, on paper, have a game for a month.
“I don’t know what can change out of the cup games.
“We were meant to be playing Caley Locos, I’m sure that was next week or the week after, but it has been changed without even telling us.
“They don’t know if I’ve set up corporate, or taken money off somebody to get people up for food and drinks – they just don’t care.
“They’re changing games without telling us, and at least let us know.
“But there are almost four weeks without a game, that might change if one of the teams gets knocked out of a cup or something, or somebody is without a game, but what we need to do now is contact opposition teams.
“Isn’t that the league fixture guy’s job?”
Meanwhile, Cambuslang’s goalkeeper Callum Dillon has been made available for transfer, at his own request.
McColl said: “Callum hasn’t really been playing and he wants to.
“He’s been very good for us, he’s a good, big goalie, but we’ll move him on, and good luck to him.”
