Scottish tennis icon Andy Murray has surprised the sport by announcing his new job just months after retiring from playing.

Murray is making a stunning return to tennis as a coach to former rival Novak Djokovic. The two rivals are now joining forces, with Murray set to be part of Djokovic's coaching set-up for the Australian Open in January, reports Wales Online.

Gor him to team up with such a fierce former rival has come as a major shock, despite the Scotsman making it no secret of his desire to go into coaching after playing his last match at the Paris Olympics in the summer. Murray's life during and after tennis makes for interesting reading.

Andy Murray's other interests

Murray has sharpened his golf skills since leaving tennis, having taken part in a few tournaments already, all while embracing the sport he's always been passionate about. Now with an abundance of time on his hands, Murray has set his sights on achieving a scratch handicap in golf.

Murray, who took his final bow at the Olympics in early August, is currently playing off a seven handicap, and got to show off his golfing prowess when he made his debut at the esteemed BMW PGA Championship's Pro-Am at Wentworth recently.

He’s also shown his competitive edge at the BTJA Mike Dickson Golf Day held at Hanbury Manor Golf Club in Hertfordshire. To boot, he's embraced his new life with a small but telling change on Twitter, updating his bio from “I play tennis” to “I played tennis, I now play golf. ”.

Golfing with Scottish golfer Robert MacIntyre at Wentworth, Murray impressed onlookers with his skills. Reflecting on Murray's golfing ability, MacIntyre remarked, "For someone that's not really played that much, I thought he was good. I was very impressed with his game. He'll be scratch in no time."

Discussing the pressure of golf compared to tennis, Murray said, "It's a different sort of nerves, because you are comfortable in the sort of tennis environment. I'm not thinking I'm going to walk out on the tennis court and forget how to hit the ball."

Marriage to Kim and brief split

Murray and Kim Sears - daughter of tennis coach Nigel Sears - have been happily married since 2015. They were first spotted together at a party during the US Open ten years prior to tying the knot. The pair, after dating for close to a decade, celebrated their union in Murray's Dunblane hometown, but not before enduring a rocky period when they briefly separated in 2009, leading to Kim 'winning custody' of their beloved dog Maggie.

This separation lasted only six months before Murray made a big decision and they reconciled, with Murray later revealing that being in a relationship improves his day-to-day life, particularly after intense matches on the court. He confessed: "I work better in a relationship. At the end of the day, especially if I've lost a match, I don't like talking about tennis, so it's nice to have someone to talk to about other stuff."

The couple are proud parents to four children - Sophia, eight, Edie, six, Teddy, four, and Lola, three. Kim is often spotted cheering on her husband during his tennis matches and supporting him off the court as well.

Since 2013, they have been the owners of their wedding venue, the five-star Cromlix House Hotel. Kim, a talented artist, also runs a website called Brushes and Paws where she showcases her animal and floral portraits.

Murray has frequently expressed his gratitude for his wife's support. In an interview with the New York Times, he said: "She doesn't like being in the newspapers, and people commenting on what she's wearing and how she looks, and those sorts of things. That's one of the things that I guess she's also sacrificed, a little bit, for our relationship, and I appreciate that a lot."

He added: "You're in these huge cities meeting new people all the time and it would be easy to get your head turned. But Kim's always been there for me. She really cares about me and helps with so many things. She always has. That's why we have such a great relationship."

Andy Murray's net worth

The tennis great has amassed over £50million in prize money throughout his distinguished career. This is supplemented by his considerable income from endorsement deals and sponsorships, partnering with prestigious brands such as Jaguar, Castore, Under Armour, and Head. His brand collaborations extend to Amazon Prime Video, Standard Life, and American Express among others.

These deals and winnings have boosted his net worth to an estimated £85 million, according to Celebrity Net Worth, although some sources suggest it could be closer to £100 million. In addition to the hotel he co-owns with Kim, Murray has also invested in other properties, including a £5 million mansion in Surrey and a luxury flat in Miami.
