Victor Gyokeres has dropped his biggest hint yet that he's open to linking up with Ruben Amorim at Manchester United.

But any switch to Old Trafford will have to wait until the summer. United swooped to land the former Sporting CP boss after finally sacking Erik ten Hag, and the Portuguese will take charge of his first game away at Ipswich this Sunday. With the January transfer window only a few weeks away, the transfer talk surrounding Amorim is ramping up as yet another Red Devils rebuild looks set to get underway.

Gyokeres is the obvious target given Utd's need for a striker, his relationship with Amorim and experience of English football after catching the Lisbon giants' eye doing the business for Coventry City. A hat-trick in a 4-1 Champions League demolition of Man City during Amorim's last match in charge only underline his readiness to make the step up to the English Premier League.

But he's determined to see out the season with Sporting, who are on course for the Portuguese title and Gyorkeres already sitting on an incredible 23 goals in 18 games so far this season. He sees no reason to up sticks mid campaign, but left the door open to joining United as Gyokeres addressed the rumours while on international duty with Sweden.

“I read many rumours about my future, but my plans don’t change: I want to stay at Sporting until the end of the season. A reunion with Amorim at Manchester United? He has some strikers there already… So we’ll see."
