British heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury announced his retirement from the sport this week, as he plans on spending more time with his wife Paris, and their seven children.

The news comes after Tyson lost his rematch against Oleksandr Usyk back in December last year.

In a video posted on his Instagram account, he said on Monday: "I would like to announce my retirement from boxing. It's been a blast. I've loved every single minute of it and I'm going to end with this - Dick Turpin wore a mask."

Tyson had previously announced his retirement on his 34th birthday in August 2022, but was back fighting again six months later, as well as making similar proclamations in October 2016 and August 2017.

So, fans are eager to see if the boxer is going to keep to his plan this time round, or if there's a chance we might see him in the ring again soon for a clash against Anthony Joshua, as has been teased for months.

Some of Tyson's followers had nothing but support for his announcement, with one commenting: "All the best Tyson. Spend quality time with your family. Fury bosh. Another said: "Legend!!! Inspiration!!!! You made people believe and that is more valuable than anything!!!!!!! Thanks for everything Champ!!"

While others were a bit more suspicious about the timing, with one saying: "Translated: Fight announcement incoming," followed by a laughing face emoji, while another said: "Now he'll spend 6 months calling AJ a dosser and come out of retirement to do Chisora 16." One fan chimed in: "In short. The AJ negotiations have begun and he’s not happy with the first offer," while another added simply: "See you in 6 months lad."

If he does go ahead with his retirement, there's a chance we could be seeing more of the Fury brood up here in Scotland, thanks to Paris' strong Scottish roots and the pair's love for the Gleneagles Hotel....

Let's take a deep dive into Tyson's life out of the ring in the meantime, including his huge net worth.

Net worth

The 36-year-old lost his last two fights against Ukrainian boxer Oleksandr Usyk, and despite losing in December, Tyson walked away with an share of a staggering £150million split between the two fighters, missing out on the additional £30million he'd of gained if he won.

Tyson had also previously earned £79million from his first fight against the Ukrainian back in May 2024, and his net worth was estimated at £41m before their first fight.

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Tyson's wealth was estimated at £111m prior to the rematch, and his earnings will only boost the amount further.

But it's estimated that roughly 47 per cent of his winnings from the rematch will go to HMRC, with £1.2m going to national insurance and £28m for income tax.

Family time

Tyson's retirement will allow him to spend more time with his wife Paris and seven children - Venezuela, Prince John James, Prince Tyson II, Valencia, Prince Adonis, Athena, and Prince Rico Paris – after The Gypsy King had previously revealed that he had not spoken to them for three months prior to his rematch with Usyk.

The boxer separated from his wife and kids for those three months, claiming it as a need for focus.

It's not the first time the couple has spilt due to boxing arrangements. Before the pair got married, Paris had cancelled their wedding due to Tyson changing the date without telling her.

Tyson had failed to qualify for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, and moved the wedding date forward - which did not sit well with Paris so she axed the event entirely.

In her memoir, "Love and Fury," Paris shared: "My fiance clearly didn't understand the amount of planning and organisation that went into a wedding. I was beginning to realise how incredibly impulsive he was, the sort of person who lived life in the moment and liked to make decisions on the hoof. In Tyson's world, our big day could be rescheduled on a whim, just like one of his boxing matches. I was having none of it, though, and refused point blank to change the date.

"It was one conflict after another and after an ugly slanging match with him outside Mam's house, I decided to call time on the wedding and our relationship. He thought I was joking and when I dropped the big bombshell, then he realised I was deadly serious."

Despite this issue, the couple went through with the wedding on the original date. Paris just 19 and Tyson 21 at the time tied the knot in Doncaster in front of 300 friends and family.

Scottish roots

As we previously reported, Paris has proudly spoken of coming from a "long line of Scottish Gypsies" and how close she is to her Scottish mum and dad, Lynda and Jimmy Mulroy.

The mum-of-seven opened up in her 2021 memoir about how her Scottish heritage has made her resilient as she helped Tyson through his mental health struggles.

Paris wrote: "I sometimes wonder where I get all my strength from _ I’ve needed tons of it while living with Tyson, let’s face it - and I reckon it’s all down to my upbringing.

"I come from a long line of Scottish gypsies, a heritage I’m very proud of...I learned most of my life lessons from my mam, Lynda, who brought me up to respect our community’s customs and traditions and who taught me the skills and principles that would shape me as a person.

"She was - and still is - a really wise, caring and resilient woman and, like many mothers, she became the ‘glue’ that bonded our family together."

Additionally during the third episode of Tyson's Netflix show At Home With The Fury, Paris and Tyson refer to her Scottish roots as they head to the swanky Gleneagles Hotel in Auchterarder.

As the couple approach the hotel, Tyson says: "Bonnie Scotland. This is your heritage isn’t it, Scotland."

Paris replies: "Yes, back to my Scottish roots." And as Tyson asks her if she feels like she's "at home?" she replies: "I feel relaxed already."

So could we see the Furys up here north of the border a wee bit more now Tyson has retired. We guess only time will tell....
