Palworld PSA: you might want to uninstall your mods if you've not played in a while ahead of its 1.0 launch

Just a heads-up

· Rock Paper Shotgun

Well, would you look at that. Palworld is launching into 1.0 tomorrow! Somehow an entire two years and then some passed to get to this point, but here we almost are, several updates and a notable lawsuit later. For some of you it might have been a while since you booted the game up, so its developer Pocketpair have a word of warning for you: be careful about those mods you've got installed.

As detailed in a Steam blog post/PSA from Pocketpair, there's a warning that if you've not played in a while, some of the mod data you have installed could be damaging. With 1.0 introducing some big system changes, old mods that haven't been updated in a while could lead to issues like crashes upon launch or while playing, corrupted save data, and certain quests being outright impossible to play. However, it's not as simple as turning off or disabling your mods, so Pocketpair have outlined some steps you can take to ensure a smooth experience.

The first bit of advice is to back up your save data. Then, the most important bit is to manually delete any old mod files from the game folder (or at least move them if you do want to hang on to them). After, you can verify the integrity of your game files, with the final step being to check that the game launches properly without mods before you download the 1.0 update.

Also worth noting that you may have saves that relied upon certain mods that you might not be able to load upon removing these mods, so again, keep that in mind when backing up your save data. Once that's all done, the recommendation is to not install any mods unless the developers of said mods have brought them in line with the 1.0 update.

Pocketpair did also release a launch trailer for the 1.0 release today which, you know, does still look like Palworld, with a few new bits to discover here and there. Palworld 1.0 launches tomorrow, July 10th.
