Black Friday’s microSD sales cut prices on our top Steam Deck cards – and they’ll work on the Steam Machine too

· Rock Paper ShotgunI will begrudgingly accept that Black Friday, bleak as it is to anyone who didn’t grow up with framed spreadsheets above their beds, is at least a good opportunity to pick up dirt-cheap PC storage. Case in point, today’s sales include some nice, sharp slashings on some of the best Steam Deck microSD cards.
These’ll also work on other handheld PCs like the Lenovo Legion Go and Asus’s new ROG Xbox Ally X, though Deck owners might – if they end up expanding their family of SteamOS hardware in the future – get a more multifunctional use out of them. The new Steam Machine and Steam Frame VR headset, both due in early 2026, include microSD slots with the same interface as the Steam Deck’s, and Valve fully intend for single cards to be swappable between devices, making for quick cross-device transfers of your installed games.
As for the dealsified microSDs we have here, the most prolific saver is the SanDisk Ultra: a personal favourite of mine, for its ability to load games faster than some premium cards despite its entry-level pricing. In the US, I haven’t found a particularly impressive deal on its more spacious 1TB or 1.5TB model, though there’s quite a consolation prize in the excellent 1TB Samsung Pro Plus.
Don’t bother spending more than this on a microSD card this Black Friday, especially if it’s got "microSD Express" stamped on it. This is a technically faster class of card, but to actually achieve those higher speeds, the hosting device needs a microSD Express-compatible slot, which the Steam Deck, Steam Machine, and Steam Frame do not.
