Former UFC light heavyweight champions, Jiri Prochazka and Jamahal Hill, have been dancing around a matchup for quite some time, but now the two fighters will finally lock horns at UFC 311 on Jan. 18 live on ESPN+ pay-per-view (PPV) in Inglewood, California.
The fight news was first leaked by UFC Macau’s post-fight broadcast team earlier Saturday. UFC show host, Dan Hellie, casually mentioned the matchup while discussing the promotion’s light heavyweight division. Check it out below:
Whether or not the pivotal 205-pound clash was supposed to be announced, the cat is officially out of the bag. A few hours after the conclusion of UFC Macau it was Prochazka’s turn to take to social media to confirm the fight news. Check it out below:
“It’s a Fight. Its a joy to be alive and create the Best ourselfs. Lets get it !!! #ufc311”
It doesn’t really matter how the announcement was made this is great news for fight fans. Hill revealed that he had signed a contract for his next fight back in October, but nobody knew for sure who he would fight. “Sweet Dreams” has been angling to fight Prochazka for a while now and even called him out following his knockout loss to Alex Pereira at UFC 300, but Prochazka wanted no part of it.
Ironically, Prochazka is also coming off a knockout defeat at the hands of “Poatan.” The two strikers met back at UFC 303 this past June. It was a rematch from their first meeting back at UFC 295 just over one year ago (which is a fight Pereira also won). It’s unknown at this time if a win for Prochazka or Hill at UFC 311 will equal another UFC title shot, but they are still two of the very best in the light heavyweight division.
