Bose unveils new Ultra Open Earbuds and Sport Open Earbuds

Today Bose has unveiled the new Sport Open Earbuds and the Ultra Open Earbuds. Both of these are "designed to create more listening moments across active pursuits and everyday life", the company says. These second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds represent Bose's new flagship open-ear experience, while the new Sport Open Earbuds are the more affordable (yet still not cheap) option.

The Ultra Open Earbuds have a newly engineered driver that delivers deeper bass and a higher volume than the first-gen model. Snapdragon Sound support is also there, with aptX Adaptive for high-quality audio. SpeechClarity technology keeps calls clear and natural while Auto Volume adjusts to fluctuations in the environment.

These also have Cinema Mode, powered by Bose TrueSpatial technology, which "creates a wider, more immersive soundstage while keeping dialogue sharp, clear, and precisely centered" for a "theater-like experience that works with any content source".

The new Ultra Open Earbuds have a "refined metallic cap with a beveled finish" and a redesigned case that can stand upright and supports wireless charging. Battery life is up to 9 hours on the buds, and the case provides an additional 19.5 hours of charge.

The new Sport Open Earbuds are "built for running, fitness, and a wide range of outdoor activities", prioritizing stability, comfort, and durability, with textured physical buttons. They have custom-designed dynamic drivers that deliver "full, balanced audio". These support Auto Volume too.

Their design ensures that they stay put during head shakes, cartwheels, and "other activity bound to put a secure fit to the ultimate test", Bose says. They are IP54 rated for dust, sweat, and splash resistance, and the silicone construction is "built to withstand the demands of activity while making dirt and grime easy to wipe away". The charging case stands upright and supports wireless charging.

The Sport Open Earbuds have up to 7 hours of battery life, with up to 22 additional hours of charge from the case. Both the Ultra Open Earbuds and the Sport Open Earbuds use Bluetooth 5.4 and support multipoint connectivity with two devices, as well as Google Fast Pair. Each of them has the option for customizable shortcuts for Spotify Tap and quick access to your phone's voice assistant.

The Sport Open Earbuds are priced at $199, while the Ultra Open Earbuds cost $299. They will both become available on October 1, with pre-orders starting on September 19. At some point after the launch, Bose promises to deliver a firmware update that will enable support for Google Find Hub, Alexa+, and shortcut support for Apple Music. The Bose app has an adjustable three-band EQ, as well as settings for Auto Volume control.
