The Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has clarified his position during the period Ghana was searching for a new head coach for the Black Stars.

According to him, he did not personally favour any specific candidate for the role.

In an interview with Asempa FM, he explained that the focus between his ministry and the Ghana Football Association was to secure a coach who could immediately take charge and deliver results for the national team.

“I didn’t have any particular coach in mind. But of course, we needed a coach who was ready to take the team. Whether he was local or foreign, the person should be ready,” Kofi Adams said.

He further stressed that while the initial plan was to bring in a coach for the short term, there was also a desire for continuity if results were positive.

“We wanted a coach for the short term, but we didn’t want a coach to come and perform well with us and then leave. So, we have put it in the contract that if you perform well, we reserve the right to retain you.”

Following the conclusion of the search process, the Ghana Football Association appointed Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars. He was officially unveiled last week and has since begun work with the team.

Queiroz has already started an initial European tour aimed at monitoring Ghanaian players abroad as part of his early preparations for upcoming assignments.
