Several high-profile players have been ruled out of the 2026 FIFA World Cup due to injury, while others face a race against time to be fit for the tournament.

Among those confirmed to miss out are Hugo Ekitike, Rodrygo, Xavi Simons, Serge Gnabry, Takumi Minamino and Samu Aghehowa, all of whom have suffered serious injuries including ACL and Achilles ruptures.

Ekitike will miss both the World Cup and part of next season after an Achilles injury, while Rodrygo and Simons are also sidelined with knee ligament damage. Gnabry has already confirmed his absence following an adductor injury.

Others remain doubtful but could still feature. Mohamed Salah, Lamine Yamal, Cristian Romero and Estêvão are among players working towards recovery ahead of the tournament.

Croatia captain Luka Modric, who suffered a cheekbone fracture, is expected to recover in time, while Brazil defender Éder Militão also remains hopeful despite requiring surgery.

With the World Cup set to begin in June across the United States, Canada and Mexico, several teams are monitoring key players closely as final squad decisions approach.
