Kwadwo Asamoah picks 2010 World Cup as his best tournament
· GhanaSoccernetFormer Ghana international Kwadwo Asamoah has singled out the 2010 FIFA World Cup as the best tournament of his career, describing it as the stage where his talent gained global recognition.
The former Black Stars midfielder reflected on a breakthrough year that elevated him from a promising youngster to an international name.
“The 2010 AFCON and World Cup were defining moments for me; that’s when people recognized my talent,” Asamoah told Citi Sports.
“Scoring on my Black Stars debut against Mali gave me confidence,” he added.
“My best AFCON experience was in Angola 2010, but I’d choose the World Cup as my top tournament, that’s where many of us made our names.”
At just 21, Asamoah played every minute of Ghana’s five matches in South Africa, facing Serbia, Australia, Germany, the United States, and Uruguay, and emerging as a central figure in the squad.
In the absence of senior figures, he assumed big on-field responsibility, delivering consistent performances that anchored the team’s midfield.
His displays earned him the CAF Most Promising African Player of the Year in 2010 and paved the way for a successful spell with Juventus, where he won six Serie A titles.
