Black Starlets head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum has declared his side is confident ahead of the U-17 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.

Ghana's U-17 team discovered the group opponents for the tournament, which will be hosted in Morocco next month.

The Black Starlets will come up against Senegal, South Africa and Algeria in Group D.

"With the group we find ourselves in, we need to work extra hard because if you look at our group opponents, they have a strong young system, so we need to work extra hard and then move on," Narteh Ogum told Asempa FM.

"The players followed the draw, and after that, they felt confident and optimistic.

"For us, as a team, we are ready, but all that we have to do is to stay focused and be very confident and then work extra hard because the best teams in Africa will meet in Morocco," the former Asante Kotoko coach added.

The Black Starlets head into the competition with a proud history in the continental showpiece as the second most successful nation in the tournament’s history, having lifted the trophy twice in 1995 and 1999 while also finishing as runners-up in 2005 and 2017.

The 2026 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations will be hosted by Morocco from May 13 to June 2, 2026.
