Ghanaian duo Malachi Boateng and Sarpong-Wiredu score to power Plymouth Argyle to victory

England-born Ghanaian duo Malachi Boateng and Brendon Sarpong-Wiredu delivered standout performances to inspire Plymouth Argyle to a thrilling comeback win over Northampton Town in the English League One on Saturday afternoon.

Boateng played the full 90 minutes, showcasing his consistency and influence, while Sarpong-Wiredu made a decisive impact off the bench as Plymouth secured a dramatic 3-2 victory at Sixfields Stadium in their Round 46 encounter.

Northampton Town made a flying start to the match, taking the lead in the 13th minute through Elliott List. The hosts doubled their advantage just five minutes later when Michael Jacobs found the back of the net, putting Plymouth under early pressure.

However, Plymouth Argyle responded with determination and resilience. Lorent Tolaj sparked the comeback in the 28th minute, reducing the deficit with a well-taken goal. Boateng then stepped up just before halftime, scoring in the 40th minute to restore parity and shift the momentum in Plymouth’s favour heading into the break.

The second half saw Plymouth continue their push, and their persistence paid off after the introduction of Sarpong-Wiredu in the 55th minute. The Ghanaian defender proved to be the difference-maker, slotting home the winning goal in the 74th minute to complete a remarkable turnaround for the visitors.

Boateng has been a key figure for Plymouth Argyle this season, making 46 appearances while contributing five goals and eight assists. Sarpong-Wiredu has also played an important role, registering two goals and one assist in 36 appearances.
