2025/26 Ghana Premier League: Week 22 Match Report - Asante Kotoko 0-1 Hearts of Oak
· GhanaSoccernetHearts of Oak beat Kotoko in the final meeting of the season, securing a gritty victory after playing the majority of the game with 10 men at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi.
The win ensured that Hearts of Oak exacted revenge while ending Kotoko's league invincibility in Kumasi this season. The Phobians have now moved to within five points of league leaders Medeama and remain in contention for the title as they sit second on the table.
Baba Adamu scored the only goal in the 14th minute with a looping header, while Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara was guilty of poor anticipation.
Hearts of Oak were in control until right back Emmanuel Amankwah was sent off after receiving a second yellow card for a bad challenge that could have resulted in a straight red. The dismissal forced Hearts to adopt a more defensive approach, and they remained compact at the back to protect their lead.
Kotoko pressed for an equaliser but created only a few half-chances. Raphael Amponsah missed a one-on-one opportunity to put the game beyond doubt before Kotoko launched a series of attacks in the closing minutes.
Goalkeeper Benjamin Asare was outstanding, showing a commanding presence throughout and earning the man of the match award as Hearts of Oak claimed their first league win over Kotoko in Kumasi since the 2020/21 season.
Kotoko remain outside the top four and will travel to face Young Apostles next, while Hearts of Oak host Berekum Chelsea in their next fixture.
