Kofi Adams reveals important clause in Carlos Queiroz's Black Stars contract
· GhanaSoccernetThe Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has disclosed that the contract of newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz includes a key performance-based clause that could see the Portuguese tactician remain in charge after the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking in an interview with Asempa FM, the Sports Minister explained that while the agreement was initially structured around a short-term appointment, there is a clause in his contract that gives Ghana the first right to extend his deal after the upcoming tournament.
“We wanted a coach for the short term, but we didn’t want a coach to come and perform well with us and then leave. So, we have put it in the contract that if you perform well, we reserve the right to retain you,” Kofi Adams said.
The clarification comes after the Ghana Football Association settled on Portuguese tactician Carlos Queiroz as the new head coach of the Black Stars.
He was officially confirmed earlier this month, ending weeks of speculation over who would take charge of the national team after coach Otto Addo’s sacking.
Queiroz has already begun work with the team and is currently undertaking a European tour to monitor Ghanaian players based abroad.
He will assemble his first Black Stars squad in May as part of preparations for the World Cup in June.
