Hollywood star Boris Kodjoe urges Ghana to use World Cup for cultural and economic revival

Ghana has become one of the most visited countries in Africa in recent years following the year of return initiative, which has seen many African-Americans return to the West African nation is search of their ancestry.
With the World Cup a little over a month to start, the Hollywood star paid a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, where he shared an insight into how the tournament could be beneficial to Ghana.
The 53-year-old aims to connect Africans in the diaspora with their roots, using the global event as a platform for cultural redefinition and economic empowerment.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Blackstar Esperance Secretariat has announced plans to utilize Ghana’s participation in the World Cup to redefine the national identity, leveraging the ‘Diaspora Return Home Project,’ which boasts a potential reach of about 600 million people worldwide. This initiative presents an enormous opportunity to foster cultural pride, tourism, and economic growth.
Kodjoe also highlighted the role sports and entertainment can play in creating engagement opportunities that elevate Ghana’s global profile.
“The World Cup isn’t just about football; it’s a platform to showcase Ghana’s rich culture and create wealth through strategic engagement,” he said.
Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams expressed excitement over Kodjoe’s involvement and the potential collaborations ahead.
