Nigeria captain Wilfred Ndidi has provided insight into Victor Osimhen's mindset following the striker's frustrated reaction to substitution during their game against Tanzania in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), suggesting the star forward is burdened by the weight of national expectation.

Despite the Super Eagles' vital win in their opening game, the former Napoli man appeared unhappy during his substitution as he failed to convert the chances which fell to him.

Speaking after the game, Ndidi acknowledged Osimhen's passionate desire to succeed while hinting at the psychological strain. "He's a big player, he wants to do the best for the team... I think he's kind of like putting too much pressure on himself," the captain explained.

The revelation comes as Osimhen continues to shoulder Nigeria's attacking hopes, with his visible frustration reflecting the immense responsibility placed upon the former Africa Footballer of the Year.

The Super Eagles are preparing to face Tunisia in their next game on Saturday, December 27 at the Fez Stadium.

The three-time champions, after losing the final of the 2023 edition to Ivory Coast, are poised to make amends, with their surprise failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup another driving factor for their determination.
