Wolves open talks to sign Ghana defender Jonas Adjetey from FC Basel
· GhanaSoccernetWolverhampton Wanderers have officially opened negotiations to sign Ghanaian international defender Jonas Adjetey from Swiss giants FC Basel as the Premier League side intensify efforts to avoid relegation, GHANAsoccernet.com understands.
The 22-year-old centre-back has emerged as a key January target for Wolves, who currently sit bottom of the Premier League table after 23 matches and are desperate to shore up a defence that has struggled throughout the season.
Wolves have reportedly submitted an opening bid of 13 million Euros (10.8m Pounds), with an additional 2 million Euros in performance-related add-ons, as talks with Basel progress in the final days of the winter transfer window.
Adjetey, who has already earned seven caps for the Ghana national team, is viewed by Wolves as a potential defensive anchor capable of making an immediate impact in their survival fight.
Manager Rob Edwards has identified strengthening the backline as a top priority, and the Basel man fits the profile the club is seeking.
Since joining Basel in August 2022, Adjetey’s stock has risen sharply. His consistent performances in the Swiss Super League and on the European stage have attracted interest from several clubs across Europe.
Although Transfermarkt currently values him at 7 million Euros, growing demand has significantly boosted his market worth.
French Ligue 1 side RC Lens and Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray have previously shown interest in the Ghanaian, but Wolves are now leading the race for his signature.
Adjetey notably chose to remain in Switzerland last summer to continue his development rather than force a move abroad.
At just 22, he represents both a short-term solution to defensive woes and a long-term investment with strong resale potential.
