You must compete for a starting berth in Black Stars - Debutant players told

Communications Director of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Henry Asante Twum, has cautioned that debutant players must compete for a starting berth in Black Stars.

Ahead of the friendly games against Austria and Germany later this month, Otto Addo has announced a 26-man squad for the games, including four debutant players.

The new faces include Derrick Luckassen, Marvin Senaya, Daniel Agyei, and Patrick Pfeiffer.

Despite their inclusion in the squad, Asante Twum said the technical team is aiming at building a strong team for the upcoming 2026 World Cup this summer, and so the debutant players must fight for a place in the team.

"We want to build a strong team. We want to get to a point where we are without our senior players, and we will be able to play comfortably," he told Asempa FM.

"We have spoken to several players, and we are glad to have them, but they will have to compete for a place on the team.

"We want to create a competitive environment, and we want every player to bring competition to the team, and those who are around must also improve themselves, because it will also help to create a competitive side," Asante Twum added.

The Black Stars will first face Austria in Vienna on March 27, before travelling to take on Germany on March 30, 2026.

The games form part of the team's preparation for the Mundial, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.

The Black Stars will play Mexico and Wales in May and June, respectively. Ghana will face Panama, England and Croatia in Group L at the global showpiece.
