Morocco head coach Walid Regragui has reiterated the Atlas Lions’ resolve to win the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Speaking at a news conference ahead of Morocco’s opening match against Comoros, Regragui indicated that, beyond the ambition to win the AFCON, the country also wants to deliver what will go down as the best tournament in the history of the competition.

“Hosting the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco has long been a dream. Our goal is to win the title in front of our fans and to deliver the best tournament possible,” Walid Regragui said.

AFCON 2025 is scheduled to run from December 21 to January 18, 2026. The opening match between Morocco and Comoros will be played on Sunday and is set to kick off at 7 pm GMT at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex in Rabat.

Host Morocco are determined for a winning start to the tournament and hope to overcome Comoros at the end of the contest.

Comoros, making just their second appearance at the AFCON, also want to stun the host and are expecting to put up a good fight.
