GFA pays Carlos Queiroz’s hotel bills, not state - Sports Minister Kofi Adams
· GhanaSoccernetGhana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has clarified that the government is not responsible for the accommodation costs of newly appointed Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz.
Speaking on Asempa FM, Adams stated that the Ghana Football Association (GFA) is fully covering the hotel expenses of the Portuguese trainer following his arrival in the country.
“The GFA is responsible for his accommodation. The state is not paying for his hotel bills,” Adams said, addressing public concerns over the arrangement.
The clarification follows confirmation from the Ghana Football Association that Queiroz will initially be housed in a hotel, as the official residence designated for the national team coach is no longer available for use.
GFA Senior Manager of Communications, Sheikh Tophic Sienu, explained that the five-bedroom property located in Accra’s Airport Residential Area, originally secured by the Sports Ministry in 2018, has been repurposed into office space.
“The official house allocated for the Black Stars coach has been converted into office space. For his first time coming to Ghana, he will be accommodated in a hotel,” he said.
Sienu noted that the residence had been underutilised in recent years, as some previous coaches already had accommodation in Ghana or did not require the facility.
“We needed to make proper use of the apartment, so we converted it into a Technical Hub to support football development,” he added.
Queiroz, appointed on a four-month deal ahead of the 2026 World Cup, has begun work, monitoring local players and embarking on a European tour to engage foreign-based squad members.
