2026 World Cup: We are happy to have 'experienced' Carlos Queiroz as Black Stars coach - Kofi Adams
· GhanaSoccernetSports and Recreation Minister, Kofi Adams, has expressed his admiration for the newly appointed Black Stars head coach, Carlos Queiroz.
The Portuguese trainer has been handed a four-month contract ahead of the 2026 World Cup this summer in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The 73-year-old replaces Otto Addo, who was sacked after unconvincing performances of the team, having suffered back-to-back defeats during the March international window.
Following an official introduction to the sector minister at the Sports Ministry ahead of his official unveiling today at the Alisa Hotel, Mr Adams praised the experienced gaffer, adding that the country is excited to have him ahead of the global showpiece.
"We are going to benefit from him, and as the saying goes, the old wine tastes the best," the Buem MP said.
"He has gathered experience all over, and his experience will be put before the Black Stars of Ghana, and so we are so lucky to have such an experienced coach, not just at the club level but at the national level and at the World Cup stage," Mr Adams added.
President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, Black Stars management committee members, and Executive Council members were all present during the official introduction to the Sports Minister.
Carlos Queiroz will begin his reign with games against Mexico and Wales as part of the preparatory games ahead of the global showpiece.
The Black Stars, who are making their fifth appearance at the World Cup, have been housed in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.
Ghana will open their campaign against Panama on June 17, before taking on England on June 23, and wrapping their games against Croatia on June 27.
After group phase elimination in 2014 and 2022, Carlos Queiroz will be hoping to guide the Black Stars to success at the tournament.
