Black Stars playing high-profile friendly games before World Cup the right approach - George Afriyie

Former Vice President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), George Afriyie, beleives the Black Stars playing high-profile friendly games will put the team in a better position before the start of the World Cup. 

The four-time African champions, as part of their preparation for the global showpiece, will come up against Germany in an international friendly game in Stuttgart on March 30, 2026.

Henry Asante Twum, who is the Communications Director of the GFA, has hinted that the team will play high-profile friendly games before the start of the Mundial in June next year.

Speaking on Asempa FM, Mr Afriyie beleives the team playing high-profile games is the right approach ahead of the tournament, which will be co-hosted by the USA, Canada and Mexico.

"Playing high-profile friendly games is the right approach ahead of the World Cup," he said.

Meanwhile, the Black Stars, who are making their fifth appearance at the World Cup have been housed in Group L alongside Panama, England and Croatia.

Ghana will kick off their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto, before facing England on June 23 in Boston and concluding the group stage against Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.

After early exits at the group stage in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil and the 2022 tournament in Qatar, the Black Stars will be determined to progress further at the expanded 2026 finals.
