AFCON 2025: 'He's a great guy' – Ndidi defends Osimhen's passionate reaction to substitution

Nigeria captain Wilfred Ndidi has come to the defence of teammate Victor Osimhen following the striker's frustrated reaction to being substituted in their AFCON victory over Tanzania, describing him as "a great guy" driven by a desire to win.

Despite Osimhen's visible displeasure when replaced in the 86th minute, Ndidi contextualised the reaction as stemming from passion rather than petulance.

"He’s a big player; he wants to do the best for the team, so maybe [he’s] a bit frustrated; it’s normal,” the captain explained.

“I think he’s kind of like putting too much pressure on himself. I am going to speak to him. He’s a great guy, he wants to win.”

The supportive comments reflect the strong camaraderie within the Nigerian squad as they navigate the pressures of continental competition.

The Super Eagles are preparing to face Tunisia in their next game on Saturday, December 27 at the Fez Stadium.
