Nigeria’s Samson Adamu has been appointed interim General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football following the resignation of Veron Mosengo-Omba.

CAF’s vice-presidents will oversee the process of appointing a substantive General Secretary in the coming months.

Adamu steps into the role at a challenging moment for CAF, with the body facing scrutiny over recent controversies, including the decision to strip Senegal of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title and award a 3-0 victory to Morocco after the final was overturned.

Mosengo-Omba’s departure followed growing criticism during a turbulent period that also saw the postponement of the women’s tournament at short notice, raising concerns about governance and decision-making within CAF.

Adamu, a Nigerian administrator, brings experience from his role as CAF’s Director of Competitions, where he has overseen the organisation of approximately 816 matches annually across about 27 competitions over a two-year cycle.

Before joining CAF, he served as Chief Executive Officer of Copa Lagos Beach Soccer until 2018, gaining experience in event management and football development.

His immediate task will be to ensure stability within CAF’s operations while the governing body works toward appointing a permanent General Secretary.
