Where Plymouth Argyle rank in table for League One attendances

by · PlymouthLive

While it has been a struggle for Plymouth Argyle to pick up points at the start of their 2025/26 League One season their attendances are among the best in the third tier of English football.

The Pilgrims have played four league games at Home Park, losing the first two to Barnsley (3-1) and Leyton Orient (1-0) before beating Blackpool (1-0) and Stockport County (4-2), and the average attendance has been 15,736.

That figure compares to 16,537 for their 2024/25 Championship campaign, and the difference between the two can be largely attributed to much smaller numbers of away fans.

Barnsley have had the largest travelling support in the Barn Park End at 888, followed by Stockport County with 628, Blackpool at 441 and Orient at 420. Away teams would regularly sell-out their allocation of around 1,700 tickets for Argyle fixtures in the Championship, or get very close to doing so.

The last time Argyle were in League One was when Steven Schumacher's team pipped Ipswich Town to the title with 101 points and there was an average home attendance of 15,579.

The Pilgrims' largest crowd this term was for their first game against Barnsley, which was 16,483. Since they have had crowds of 15,422 against Orient, 15,322 for the visit of Blackpool and 15,719 against Stockport.

Their average attendance of 15,736 is currently the fifth highest in League One. Bolton Wanderers lead the way with 20,323, followed by Cardiff City on 19,661, whose figure has benefitted from 3,030 members of the travelling Green Army going to Argyle's game there on August 30.

Third place in terms of crowds goes to Bradford City on 19,638, followed by Huddersfield Town with 17,116, then Argyle, and Barnsley in sixth on 13,802. The average attendance for League One as a whole is 10,645.

The Pilgrims' only home league game for the rest of this month is against Peterborough United on Saturday, September 20, although they will also host Tottenham Hotspur under-21s in the Vertu Trophy three nights later.
