UCL: Joleon Lescott predicts what’ll happen if Arsenal face Barcelona in semi-final

Former Manchester City defender, Joleon Lescott, has predicted what will happen if Arsenal face Barcelona in the semi-final stage of the Champions League this season.

Both teams will meet in the Champions League semi-final stage if they win their quarter-final fixtures against Sporting CP and Atletico Madrid, respectively.

Arsenal had defeated Bayer Leverkusen in the Round of 16 to set up a quarter-final tie with Sporting CP, taking place in April.

Barcelona, on the other hand, defeated Premier League side Newcastle United to also set up a quarter-final tie with LaLiga rivals Atletico Madrid.

In an interview with TNT Sports, Lescott predicted that Arsenal would cause Barcelona many ‘problems’ should both sides meet in the last-4 in what would be a repeat of the 2006 Champions League final.

Asked to rate Barcelona’s chances of winning the Champions League this season, Lescott said, “I would not say so just because of the way they defend.

“I think a more compact team like Arsenal, and with the offensive talent that they have, I think will cause Barca a lot of problems because I still think there are frailties in their defensive line.

“But yes, when they play like this, especially as long as it is two legs, and how exciting they are and how dominant they are at home, they have got a chance.”
