World Cup 2026: They are compact – Obi Mikel warns Argentina about Switzerland

by · Daily Post

Former Chelsea midfielder, John Obi Mikel, has warned Lionel Messi-led Argentina about the threat posed by Switzerland ahead of their World Cup quarter-final clash on Sunday.

Speaking on Fox Sports, the former Nigerian international warned that the Swiss is an awkward team to play against, adding that they are so compact.

Switzerland booked their place in the World Cup last-8 after eliminating Colombia from the Round of 16 stage, while Argentina sent Egypt packing out of the competition.

“This Swiss team, every time you watch them, they are a very awkward team to play against, you never know exactly what you’re going to get from them,” the former Obi Mikel said.

“But for Argentina, we know what we would get from them. They try to keep the ball and make sure that Messi is the guy to create chances and score the goal. But with this team [Switzerland], you never know.

“They are so compact, they’re so tight, they don’t give you too many chances. So [the Argentina vs Switzerland match] is going to be a very good game to watch.”
