UNL: Why I may not play Bruno Fernandes against Norway – Portugal coach, Jesus

Portugal head coach, Jorge Jesus has suggested that midfielder, Bruno Fernandes could be unavailable for the UEFA Nations League fixture against Norway in Oslo on Sunday.

The 32-year-old Manchester United midfielder started for Portugal in their 1-0 opening victory over Wales in Lisbon earlier in the week and completed the full 90 minutes.

However, Fernandes was absent from Saturday’s training session and is considered a doubt for the match against Norway.

Jesus said, as quoted by Metro: “In the game against Wales, we went in with all the available players, but Bruno Fernandes came off with a complicated problem.

“The Fernandes case involves treatment and recovery time. He’s coming off an injury at United, and he told me he’s been playing with that pain for the last three games, which is hindering him.

“It was one of the factors that prevented Bruno from playing at his best against Wales. I’ve already spoken to him, and I prefer not to risk it in this game so he’s fully fit for the Denmark match.”

Like Portugal, Norway also secured a victory in their Nations League opening match, defeating Denmark 3-2 at home during the week, with Erling Haaland delivering an outstanding performance by scoring twice.
