2026 World Cup: Nobody expected this from Messi – Lamine Yamal

by · Daily Post

Spain winger, Lamine Yamal, has hailed the level that Argentina captain Lionel Messi has shown at the 2026 World Cup.

Yamal says nobody expected Messi to produce such amazing displays at this point of his career.

Messi currently leads the race for the Golden Boot at the tournament with eight goals.

The 39-year-old has also scored in nine consecutive World Cup matches.

“Leo Messi has been incredible so far,” Yamal told Mundo Deportivo.

“We all know who’s Messi but… no one expected this sort of level at the World Cup.

“I’m so happy for him.”

Messi will be hoping to inspire Argentina again, when they play Switzerland in the quarter-finals this weekend.
