UCL: Ismail Kartal resigns as Fenerbahce manager after 1-1 draw with Roma

Ismail Kartal has resigned as Fenerbahce manager following their 1-1 draw with Roma in the Champions League on Thursday evening.

According to Kartal, he will not return to the Turkish giants, having previously represented the club as a player and assistant coach.

“I stepped down from my duties this evening,” Kartal told the media.

“I made this decision to clear the way for my club. I resigned while the path is still clear, with no intention of ever returning.”

Kartal returned to Fenerbahce for a fourth spell as manager in June 2026.

He led the club back to the Champions League for the first time in 18 years.

Club president Aziz Yildirim has refused to accept the 65-year-old’s resignation.
