by Don Silas · Daily PostArgentina captain, Lionel Messi, has revealed that Cristian Romero’s goal against Egypt ignited hope in each of Argentina’s players during both sides’ World Cup Round of 16 clash on Tuesday.
Argentina were trailing 2-0 against Egypt until Messi provided an assist, which Romero converted via a header in the 79th minute of the encounter.
A few minutes later, two goals from Messi and Enzo Fernandez ensured Argentina eliminated Egypt from the competition.
Speaking to Olé after Argentina defeated Egypt, Messi said, “It’s a relief, a catharsis.
“We can’t end the FIFA World Cup today. We don’t want to leave. After Romero scored, hope was ignited in each of us.
“This team has always shown me love, and it is a source of pride to fight alongside them,” he added.
