Turkish football authorities set to ban Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi

Turkish football authorities could suspend Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi ahead of Besiktas’s upcoming Super Lig fixture against Antalyaspor next weekend.

The former Leicester City midfielder faces a one-match ban if he picks up a yellow card during Sunday’s Istanbul derby between Fenerbahce and Besiktas.

Under Turkish Super Lig rules, any player who collects four yellow cards over the season automatically serves a one-game suspension.

Ndidi is currently walking a tightrope with three cautions to his name so far this campaign.

His first came on his league debut against Eyüpspor, followed by bookings against Göztepe and Kasımpaşa.

A mainstay in manager Sergen Yalçın’s lineup, Ndidi has started 20 of the 21 matches he’s been available for this term.

He missed December’s clash with Rizespor due to international duty with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

After returning to Istanbul, an injury picked up in Morocco kept him out of consecutive games against Kayserispor and Eyüpspor in January, and he was later granted compassionate leave the following month.

Fellow Nigerian internationals Paul Onuachu and Victor Osimhen have already served yellow-card accumulation bans this season in Turkey.
