Loaded handgun found hidden in bush near north Dublin playground

GARDAÍ HAVE RECOVERED a loaded handgun concealed in a bush near a playground in Ballymun, north Dublin.

Officers from the Ballymun Drug Unit made the discovery during a foot patrol in Coultry Park yesterday.

The drug unit were conducting the patrol as part of Operation Tara, targeting drug-related activity in the area.

The firearm, which was found close to a children’s play area, had one round in the chamber.

It has since been seized, and will undergo ballistic and forensic examination.

No arrests have been made in connection with the discovery of the firearm, but gardaí said they are pursuing a “definite line of enquiry” as investigations continue.
