The Division – yes, the first one – gets a PS5 update

Ubisoft have released version 1.23 of The Division, a game released ten years ago and superseded by the cunningly named The Division 2. The new patch does absolutely nothing apart from give PS5 players a 60fps mode. That’s it, nothing else, just a nice 60fps update for the *checks notes* five people still playing the game on PS5.

The Division Heartland  was meant to be the next game in the series but was cancelled by Ubisoft in 2024, with the publisher confirming the news in a statement to IGN. The major reason for the cancellation is that Ubisoft will be redeploying its resources to focus on other projects like xDefiant and Rainbow Six. The team at Red Storm Entertainment, the developers of The Division Heartland, will be redeployed to the other projects.

That didn’t work out too well as XDefiant, Ubisoft’s free-to-play shooter, officially shut down on June 3, 2025, just over a year after its May 2024 launch.

Since then Ubisoft have been busy restructuring their business, starting by selling off five games to Atari, the games being Cold Fear, I Am Alive, Child of Eden, Grow Home, and Grow Up. They have also delayed all their “big” games to allow them to be more polished, although they did not say which games these were,

They have also been cuddling up with Tencent to create a subsidiary that will look after three of it’s biggest franchises, Assassin’s Creed, Rainbow Six and Far Cry..
