Ruud van Nistelrooy next job stance emerges amid Leicester City update after Man United exit

by · Manchester Evening News

Former Manchester United striker and coach Ruud van Nistelrooy is reportedly ready to immediately step into a head coach role after his exit from the club and has already been linked to two vacant jobs.

After re-joining the club as assistant manager in the summer, the Dutchman left Old Trafford following the arrival of Ruben Amorim as head coach. He took charge of four United games on an interim basis following the sacking of Erik ten Hag in October, winning three and drawing one of those games.

Two of those wins came against Leicester City, a 5-2 victory in the Carabao Cup and and 3-0 win in the Premier League. The Foxes are now one of the clubs linked with Van Nistelrooy after the sacking of Steve Cooper on Sunday afternoon.

He was quickly instilled as one of the favourites for the job. But the coach has also been heavily linked with the vacant position at Bundesliga 2 side Hamburg.

His name has also been linked to the Coventry City job, but Frank Lampard seems to be closing in on a move to the Championship club.

Sky Sports Germany’s Florian Plettenberg has now given the latest update. He reports that Van Nistelrooy is the ‘preferred solution for some bosses’ at Hamburg, but it will be a difficult deal to complete.

It is added that there are ‘far more concrete inquiries’ from teams in England with Leicester City mentioned. Van Nistelrooy is reported to be ‘eagar’ to immediately step into a head coach role, and it seems that he may not be short on options to do so.

Before taking interim charge of United, the former striker has previous head coach experience with Dutch side PSV Eindhoven. He took charge of the team for the 2022/23 season, leading them to a second place finish and a League Cup win.

A potential move to Leicester would see him link up with Jamie Vardy. The Leicester man infamously beat Van Nistelrooy’s record for consecutive Premier League games scored in in 2015, with the former United man sending a message of congratulations at the time.
