16 players could miss Ipswich vs Manchester United as Ruben Amorim dilemma clear

by · Manchester Evening News

Manchester United are back in action this afternoon as they start a new era under the guidance of Ruben Amorim.

The new head coach officially arrived at United at the start of the international break, and he now takes his team to Portman Road for the Premier League clash against Ipswich on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm kick-off). He does however have a few injury concerns going into the match.

Centre-backs Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof look set to be out. Maguire has missed the last five Premier League games through injury, while Lindelof was forced off in the first half of Sweden’s clash against Slovakia last weekend.

Amorim will have an anxious wait over several other players. Leny Yoro, Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia are yet to make an appearance this season, but have returned to training. Their fitness for the game will be assessed.

Two other worries for the new head coach is Lisandro Martinez and Kobbie Mainoo. Martinez was forced to withdraw from Argentina duty due to a back injury.

There’s also uncertainty over if midfielder Mainoo wil be ready for the game after missing the last eight games with a muscle injury. He has however been involved in training in the build-up to the game.

Meanwhile, Ipswich boss Kieran Maguire has a few injury worries of his own. Winger Chiedozie Ogbene, striker George Hirst and full-back Janoi Donacien are all ruled out.

There is expected to be late fitness tests for several players. Nathan Broadhead (groin), Wesley Burns (knee), Omari Hutchinson (foot), Kalvin Phillips are all slight doubts.

McKenna also revealed that a ‘decision’ has to be made on Jacob Greaves and Jack Taylor. The duo have trained this week after missing a couple of months with injury.
