Rio Ferdinand agrees with Ruben Amorim verdict on Viktor Gyokeres to Man United transfer
by Isaac Seelochan · Manchester Evening NewsRio Ferdinand and Martin Keown have both agreed over Viktor Gyokeres' next destination amid links to Manchester United.
The Swedish striker has enjoyed a phenomenal rise since joining Sporting from Coventry City in 2023. Gyokeres has scored 24 goals across all competitions so far this season after netting 43 times last term.
Gyokeres' performances have played a key role in Ruben Amorim's rise, leading United to appoint the Portuguese coach as Erik ten Hag's successor this month. Amorim's arrival at Old Trafford has inevitably led to Sporting's star forward being linked with joining him in M16.
The 26-year-old has also been linked with Premier League rivals Arsenal who have struggled to score goals this season as they battle Manchester City and Liverpool for the title.

But United legend Ferdinand has backed Gyokeres to join the Reds due to his successful relationship with Amorim from their time in Portugal.
“If he wants to win he goes to Manchester United. No, I’m joking. I think the key point is he knows the manager [Amorim],” he told TNT Sports.
“Transitioning into a new league, going in with someone who knows your game and will be able to get the best out of you and you’re going to go somewhere he’s rebuilding and you could be the star of that process… he’ll be licking his lips.”
And former Arsenal defender Keown is in agreement with Ferdinand, believing that Gyokeres may look to make the switch to M16 after Amorim's arrival.
“If you think, at the moment, he is playing his best football where this guy [Amorim] took him, he’s gone now," Keown added. "So you wonder whether he’s going to retain that and, if not, he’ll certainly be looking to join him at Man United."
