Marcus Rashford unhappiness, Ruben Amorim’s opinion and Man United transfer stance

by · Manchester Evening News

The future of Marcus Rashford is a hot topic around Manchester United as the January transfer window approaches.

The academy graduate has been left out of the matchday squad for each of the last three games in all competitions. Head coach Ruben Amorim has confirmed that the decision is purely down to selection.

In an interview last week, Rashford then spoke of his desire for a new challenge. "For me, personally, I think I'm ready for a new challenge and the next steps,” he told journalist Henry Winter.

"When I leave it's going to be 'no hard feelings'. You're not going to have any negative comments from me about Manchester United. That's me as a person.

"If I know that a situation is already bad I'm not going to make it worse. I've seen how other players have left in the past and I don't want to be that person. When I leave I'll make a statement and it will be from me."

With the January transfer window getting closer, there has been a lot of talk over the future of Rashford. Here is a look at the latest over the last few days and hours.

Rashford’s unhappiness

Rashford is unhappy that the club didn’t inform him of his availability for transfer before sounding out potential buyers. The forward has been made available for transfer in the January window, meaning that he could have potentially played his final game for the club where he came up through the academy.

Sources close to the player have accused the club of informing other clubs of his availability in the transfer window, despite the player himself being unaware of the situation.

Ruben Amorim’s opinion

Speaking after the loss against Bournemouth at the weekend, Amorim outlined his stance on the situation around Rashford. “It’s my decision and it always will be,” he said.

“It is selection. I want to see the best of my players and I try different things with different players. That’s my focus.”

When asked if Rashford will be in the squad for the Boxing Day clash against Wolves, Amorim said: “It depends. We will see.”

Explaining his decision to leave Rashford out of the squad for the Carabao Cup quarter-final against Tottenham last week, Amorim told Sky Sports: “Selection.

“I chose the players that I felt were ready to cope with the demands of playing a strong game. I try to visualise all the week and then choose my players. Just selection.”

Man United transfer stance

In his latest update, MEN’s Manchester United correspondent Samuel Luckhurst has explained the club’s transfer stance on the forward.

“United have not made a concrete decision to sell Rashford and well-placed sources say no specific conversations with intermediaries have been held about him, though they concede it is probable Rashford was mentioned given the speculation over his future,” he wrote.

“United were prepared to sell Rashford in the summer if there had been a market for the England international, though club figures stressed their preference was to keep Rashford and help him regain form. United received no offers for a player on a £325,000-a-week contract.”
