Harry Maguire

Harry Maguire has been sidelined with a thigh injury sustained during United's 2-2 draw against Tottenham on November 8. He has now missed five matches, a period during which the team has conceded eight goals. Amorim has taken a cautious approach with the 32-year-old’s recovery, choosing not to rush him back despite the team’s current defensive crisis. A comeback for the Boxing Day fixture against Newcastle United is still possible.

Matthijs de Ligt

Matthijs de Ligt is currently dealing with a back injury that has kept him out of the last three fixtures against West Ham, Wolves, and Bournemouth. The injury is not believed to be severe as Amorim previously described it as a "small thing." However, because De Ligt has been a mainstay in Amorim's three-man defence, the club is exercising extreme caution to avoid a long-term setback. Like Maguire, there is a possibility he could feature against Newcastle.

Casemiro

After his goal in the 4-4 draw with Bournemouth last Monday, Casemiro received a yellow card for a foul on Marcus Tavernier. As it was his fifth of the season the Brazilian will serve a one-game suspension against Villa, then return to the squad on Boxing Day against Newcastle United.
