The iconic series Gavin and Stacey made a comeback to BBC One, leaving viewers in utter suspense as it hinted at an upcoming wedding without revealing the much-anticipated couple. The Barry crew was all set to journey to Essex, facing their fair share of pre-travel jitters.
While Smithy, portrayed by James Corden, psyched himself up for what promised to be a stag do to remember, fans were thrown for a loopit wasn't about his nuptials with Nessa (Ruth Jones). Chaos ensued among the audience when it emerged that Smithy was actually involved with Sonia (Laura Aikman).
On the flip side, Nessa seemed unfazed by Smithy's romantic choices as she busied herself providing tuktuk rides along the coastline. The spectators fervently wished for Nessa to speak out during the ceremony and flocked to X, the platform succeeding Twitter, to air their astonishment.
@chlxhxpkins exclaimed: "That was f*****g evil to do #GavinAndStacey", while @k4tzlvr vented their anger: "I'm so f****** mad #GavinAndStacey", reports Devon Live.
Further adding to the online uproar, @lewisa95 stated: "If Nessa doesn't turn up and end up marrying Smithy instead we riot #GavinAndStacey", and @TheDutchxes expressed early disappointment: "Na I'm turning it off already #GavinAndStacey."
Moreover, the episode brought many to laughter with Nessas double-fisted vaping and smoking antics, which was on-brand for her character. In a poignant moment when she and Smithy reunited, Nessa turned down the wedding invite, hinting unresolved feelings.
Smithy told her, "There will be a place for you, you know, if your plans change," Nessa's heart-tugging response was: "I ain't got no plans, Smithy. We both knows that."
Nessa (played by Ruth Jones) confided in Stacey (Joanna Page) about the proposal, revealing that she was interrupted by Gavin (Matthew Horne) and Smithy never gave her an answer.
When Smithy finally attempted to discuss the proposal with Nessa, she confessed that she regretted the entire thing and had moved on.
